Lumpini Park and her 360rai is located right next to the CBD of Bangkok and is very accessible as there is a MRT Station right under it as well as a large parking area if you were to drive there. It is open from 4am all the way to 9pm, with plenty of joggers and cyclists around. There are views to Silom/Sathorn as well as Ratchadamri/Ratchaprasong areas. It is a great place to get away from the busy streets around there and just a few steps inside the gates and you’re already transported to a more serene environment.
You can’t talk about Lumpini Park without the (in)famous gym with the topless guys (and partially topless girls) pumping iron like there’s no tomorrow. Last time I was there, it was free for locals and 50 baht for foreigners. It is certainly a barebones ‘gym’ – if you can even call it that!
Everywhere you look in the park, there is green to be seen. Massive trees surround a man-made lake. It is possible to rent one of those swan peddle boats and have a romantic session, although it could get rather sweaty from the humidity and peddling itself! If you’re there at the right time, there are a couple of spots that do aerobics exercises where anyone can just hop in to get moving! That in itself is quite the sight, as there’s usually over 100 people following along to the instructor and her thumping music.
The many hidden locations and over-hanging trees around the gorgeous park is perfect for families and couples to have their photos taken. From playgrounds to monuments, there’s various backdrops to use and props to play with.
